I shall rate books on a 0-10 scale.
0-3 points shall be awarded for Entertainment Value and enjoyment. (Did I have fun? How much fun?)
0-3 points shall be awarded for Quality (Quality of writing, punctuation, storytelling, etc.)
0-3 points shall be awarded for Originality of concept, plot, characterization (Is the book written in cliche? Is there something original here?)
0-1 points shall be awarded for surprising me in a good way and Exceeding Expectations (I tend to read pulpy and cheesy novels from the past century. As such, I tend to expect and put up with a certain degree of sign-of-the-times sexism, racism, homophobia, Cold War shenanigans, eugenics, blah blah blah. But sometimes a book will surprise me by being positive in some way while still remaining ‘of its time’. Or maybe the book will just do something so insanely awesome I will have to award this extra point.
The points will be added at the end to give the book a score between 0 and 10. Good books will have a score between 6 and 9. Great books will have a 10.
